What it is
The heartstide collection is 2,016 imprints, sorted into seven tomes. Six of those tomes hold many. HEARTSTONE holds one. Whoever holds it holds the apex of the chronicle — the single imprint the rest of the collection orbits.
It is not pre-assigned to a friend. It is not picked by the artist after the fact. It is decided by Bitcoin itself, at inscription time, by a rule written in public before anyone can see who mints where.
How Bitcoin chooses
A deterministic shuffle sorts all 2,016 imprints into the seven-tome ladder. Six imprints land in the apex band — the rarest tier. One of those six is promoted to HEARTSTONE. The other five stay as EMBER.
The rule, in four lines
The rule is published. The shuffle is deterministic. Bitcoin sets the inscription order as people mint. No one can game it — not the artist, not the early buyer, not the mempool. By the time the last imprint inscribes, the apex has already chosen itself.
The apex band
These are the six inscription ids the shuffle lands in the apex band. Five settle as EMBER. The one carrying the most 8 digits in its id becomes HEARTSTONE.
#888 carries three eights. #98, #258, and #1421 carry one each. #1272 and #1293 carry none. The rule is unambiguous.
Why this design
Most 1-of-1s are decided by the artist after the fact — the "best one" gets crowned. HEARTSTONE inverts that. The rule is written first, in public. Bitcoin orders the inscriptions. The math does the rest.
Given the inscription order, HEARTSTONE is computable in one line of code. Anyone can verify the apex landed where the rule said it would.
